CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — A blood drive taking place in memory of a Chadbourn man who benefitted from these lifesaving donations.
Wayne Watson died on September 28 after battling cancer and complications post-surgery. In his last two weeks, Watson received 20 units of blood.
His wife Amy said if it weren’t for those willing donors, she would have had less time with Wayne.
The Watsons own ‘Amy’s Academy of Dance Arts’ in Chadbourn.
The dance studio’s new slogan is “Dance Like Amy, Love Like Wayne.”
Dancer and high school student Victoria Burge called Wayne her “Poppy.” She is hosting a blood drive through ‘The Blood Connection’ in his honor.
“We are so thankful for the people that gave the blood to prolong his life for the two weeks that we had with him,” Amy Watson said.
“I knew that he would want me to do this and he would be very proud of me,” Burge said.
More than 40 people signed up to donate blood on Tuesday but due to a power outage on ‘The Blood Connection’s’ bus, the drive will be rescheduled for December 28.
It will be held at Amy’s Academy of Dance Arts in Chadbourn from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., the address is 129 E. Strawberry Blvd.
